É praticamente impossível falar em cibercultura sem mencionar o nome do tunisiano Pierre Lèvy, que, em 1995, quando a web ainda estava em formação, previu que a rede seria um espaço virtual coletivo sem nenhum controle, que aumentaria a inteligência de todos. Do pensamento então pioneiro do filósofo surgiu o livro Cibercultura, em que expunha suas reflexões sobre como os meios digitais provocarão uma profunda mudança na sociedade. O livro comemorou dez anos em terras brasileiras com o Cibercultura 10+10, evento em Santos que trouxe para cá, nos dias 1 e 2 de outubro, o próprio Lèvy.
Nesses dois dias de evento, que o Estado de S. Paulo noticia em seu site, em uma matéria que questiona a relevância do pensamento de Lévy para o mundo digital hoje, o filósofo argumentou que estamos entrando “em uma nova fase da humanidade, com novas formas políticas, culturais e costumes”. Ele traçou, ainda,um paralelo com a invenção da imprensa, tamanho os efeitos da tecnologia digital na cultura.
Embora obviamente Cibercultura não fale de web 2.0 (termo inventado em 2004), as novas ferramentas estão entre os caminhos apontados por Lèvy para esta nova sociedade. Wikipedia, Twitter e YouTube são o “começo da civilização da inteligência coletiva”. Para Lèvy, estamos no ponto onde a cibercultura está passando da contracultura para ser a cultura dominante. E a grande revolução deve vir com uma web inteligente, como propõe seu projeto IEML, que você pode entender na entrevista em video que Lèvy deu ao G1, logo abaixo.
Em entrevista à Folha de S. Paulo, ao fim do evento, Pierre Lèvy chamou atenção para as mudanças demográficas da expansão da cultura digital – com número cada vez maior de adeptos -, para as mudanças futuras e para a impossibilidade, segundo ele, do controle da informação digitalizada.
Traduzido em mais de dez idiomas, Cibercultura, de 1997, foi lançado no Brasil em 1999. Logo virou parada quase obrigatória para quem quer estudar cultura digital. Segundo a Editora 34, foram mais de 20 mil exemplares vendidos, em duas edições e sete reimpressões.
